Healing 1st WW dead

In readiness for the commemorations of the 1st world war next year, members of the committee have been researching the village dead.

All the names have been researched by Emma Lingard, with assistance from former villager and 1st WW historian, Pete Steel. Between them they have discovered where they lived and how they were employed, who they served with and where they are buried.

Big Dig meeting

Do you want to know what's under your garden? If you do then volunteer for our latest project, the village big dig.

Villagers are being encouraged to attend a public meeting to volunteer their gardens for test pits to learn more about how the village developed and who lived here.

The meeting on Thursday June 6th is a chance to learn more about the project and see how to get involved.

So put the date in your diary - 7pm in Healing Village Hall

Healing Heritage Weekend

Tomorrow (Sat 8th September) sees Healing participate in the Heritage Weekend.

The event takes place at St Peter & St Paul Church and will see guided tours of the church take place, displays by local history groups and heritage walks around the village.

The event runs Saturday 10 to 4 and Sunday 12 to 4, with walks taking place at 10.30, 1 and 2.30 both days. Meet at the sundial outside the church front door.

Students produce publicity material

Students on the National Diploma Print & Publishing course at East Coast Media, Grimsby Institute are producing material for the HMMS website.

The Year 1 group have been tasked with taking photographs of the site for the website and publicity use. They will be visiting the site on May 19th to take the official photographs and produce a video.

Bird Survey

Spring is here and visitors to the site are encouraged to do a spot of bird watching.

Secretary, Mary Howard, is keeping a list of all birds which visit the site and would love to hear from you.

So far pheasants, curlew, as well as blackbirds, robins and other species have been seen. Drop us an e-mail to let us know what you've spotted.

Review of the year

DURING the wintery weather of December, some residents were concerned about the welfare of the sheep on the moated site.

Throughout the year, the farmer and members of the committee do look after and daily check the flock. The animals were looked after and fed with the appropriate food. However, being a native breed the sheep are very hardy.

Healing Village Fete 2011

This year's fete will be held on Saturday September 3rd 2011 at the moated site. Attractions will include various tradestands and displays.

For the second year, the Friends will be serving tea and coffee to visitors along with cakes. There will also be a photographic display and information boards about the history of the site and a short video. Also due to its success last year, there will be a quiz about the site too.

We look forward to seeing everyone there!

Healing Friends AGM

The AGM of the Friends' Committee was held last night. All will continue in their roles, with one difference being the secretary is now Mary Howard.

The chairman gave his report (this will be published in full on here) and was pleased to say that the committee had worked hard in looking after the site and that the 2010 village fete had been a success.
